Englewood Cliffs School District (03-1380)

Englewood Cliffs School District

Englewood Cliffs is a suburban community located in Northern New Jersey approximately five minutes from the George Washington Bridge. Our current student enrollment is 524. The Englewood Cliffs School District has two schools. North Cliff School is home to students in grades Pre-K-2, and Upper School serves students in grades 3-8. The district’s pre-kindergarten and kindergarten programs are full day. At both schools, there are primarily three classes per grade level, and on occasion, four sections are needed to maintain smaller class sizes.

The Englewood Cliffs School District is proud of our partial immersion program at North Cliff School. Beginning in kindergarten, students are able to choose a language: Spanish, French, or Italian. The language program continues at Upper School five days a week for 40 minute periods. Currently the program is offered in grades 3 and 4 and will continue to grade 5 in September of 2017. This year students in grades 5-8 are offered Spanish.

Our curriculum has recently been revised in language arts. Beginning this year in grades K-5, we now have a Reading Workshop program and Words Their Way. Children are reading at their appropriate levels and are surrounded by wonderful literature. Our teachers and support staff have been trained to implement the program and continually seek ways to enhance their skills. The goal of the Englewood Cliffs School District is to continually implement programs that support differentiation, interdisciplinary learning, and cross-curricular units of study.

In support of our related arts program, we have pre-engineering in grades 7 and 8. Our Upper School Glee Club is an elective for students in grades 6-8, and band is offered in grades 4-8. Throughout the year, we have numerous performances to highlight our programs. Students in middle school also have an opportunity to participate in a musical play.

We are fortunate to have excellent parent support groups. The Parent Teacher Association and Englewood Cliffs Education Foundation work closely with the administration and staff to provide programming and community activities. All their efforts to ensure that students receive academic and social opportunities is greatly appreciated.

The Board of Education, administration, staff, students, and community members are proud of our high expectations and continuous efforts to make strides in the right direction. Please feel free to visit our website at www.englewoodcliffs.org for more information.
