Fairview Public School District

The Fairview Public School District is proud to present this year’s School Report Card. This report is designed to provide insight pertaining to our students and the staff that serve those students. Much of the success of the programs that have been initiated recently can be attributed to a collaborative effort by educators and community members.

Academic focus for this school year is centered on improving student academic achievement and standardized test scores. The middle school (grades seven and eight) master schedule has been revised to include Algebra I math classes in grade 8 and Pre-Algebra math classes in grade 7 for eligible students. In addition, all students in grades 1-8 will now receive 80 minutes of instruction in English Language Arts and Mathematics each day. Students in grades 1-8 are offered the opportunity to attend the Extended Day Program which provides remedial ELA and Math classes as well as ESL classes to help students succeed academically. This year we are also offering an Internet Homework Lab after school in our Lincoln School computer room. A district wide writing and reading initiative has been adopted by the instructional staff and administration as a goal for the year.

The 2016-2017 school year marks the eleventh year that the district has occupied temporary classroom space known as the Number Three School Annex. Located at 240 Fourth Street, this space is currently being occupied by all of the first grade students in the district. The addition of this space has allowed the administration to add sections in kindergarten in an effort to reduce class size. However, as is the case in many local districts, classroom space continues to be an area of concern.

Although we have experienced a significant turnover during the past several years, our instructional staff remains a blend of veteran and new teachers that has evolved in to a cohesive group. They have developed a rapport that has allowed new, innovative techniques to be incorporated with proven methods that have withstood the test of time. The entire staff is engaged in an on-going process of professional development in an effort to keep pace with the changing demands of their profession.

Our students come from a variety of socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds. Diversity is viewed as an integral component of the educational process in Fairview. This philosophy has resulted in a strong sense of cohesiveness and harmony among the children who attend our schools. The district provides numerous programs designed to address the needs of all students and provide the necessary tools for them to succeed.

As for the future in Fairview, the administration and staff plan to continue to assist our students in anyway necessary to ensure their future academic success. These plans include continuing to upgrade technology equipment throughout the district, develop programs designed to increase the use of technology in our schools, continue to research new and innovative methods of instruction, and provide supplemental programs geared to improve student performance on state standardized tests. A major undertaking in the district during this school year is preparing our students to be successful on the PARCC (Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers) test.
