It is with great enthusiasm and pride that I present you with the Tenafly Report Card. Tenafly’s reputation as an excellent school system is once again documented by these most recent statistics.
The report card confirms that Tenafly students continue to achieve at levels well above the state average and above those levels achieved in other K-12 schools similar to Tenafly. Our students not only excel on state assessments and on other assessments measured by the report card, but also in areas not noted on this report card such as classroom assessments and projects, the arts, technology, and extra-curricular activities. Since the education of the whole child is our goal, this broader picture truly captures the excellence of The Tenafly Public Schools more completely.
The report card also gives us an opportunity to identify areas where we can improve as a district and it gives us valuable information to support the continued progress of each and every student. We are in the process of implementing reading and writing programs across the curriculum for every child in order to continually improve the quality of the education we offer. Based on the data from this report card and other sources, we expanded the STEM program at the Middle School, created a STEM and Practical Arts Academy at the High School, and developed STEAM units at the Elementary level. In addition, we have created specialized classes for students with autism as well as programs for students with mild to moderate language and learning disabilities. Last year we planned and this year will implement a new Early Childhood Learning Center that will work side-by-side with the Child Development Program at the high school. We are also in the process of developing a new high school schedule that will provide longer blocks for more in-depth learning and will begin later to provide for a healthier learning environment for our students.
We continually provide programs that will enhance the education of each of our students, provide students with learning opportunities so that they can apply their knowledge in authentic settings and provide them with the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in the 21st Century. We are committed to the success of all of the students and use the information from the report card to help guide this work.
Tenafly is lucky to have a dedicated staff, involved parents and a supportive community. Our students benefit from the involvement and the efforts of all of these groups working together to provide a challenging and nurturing environment.
