Wood-Ridge School District

Message from the Superintendent

The Wood-Ridge School District has a long tradition of excellence in the classrooms, on the athletic fields and in co-curricular activities. Today, we have more than 1,200 students in three public schools. Our public schools serve students in grades Pre-K through12.

To ensure that we continue to meet the expectations of our 21st century community, the Wood-Ridge School District is transforming education through the use of technology, partnerships with institutes of higher education and community service-learning. Our programs include Advanced Placement, credit recovery and remediation and Distance Learning as well as a variety of web-based and on-line programs. Our on-going partnerships with institutes of higher education afford our students an opportunity to engage in dual-enrollment courses. Through this program option, students earn three college credits for each course successfully completed prior to high school graduation.

The school district is extremely proud of its students who achieve levels of distinction in academics, athletics and service. Students continue to excel with participation in the President's Award for Educational Excellence. Throughout the state, our students have demonstrated their talents in the arts. Our students also excelled on the playing field as a result of championships and good sportsmanship.

An extensive professional development program is provided to all faculty and district staff. The professional development program includes a focus on job-embedded professional learning through the implementation of Professional Learning Communities, out-of-district seminars, university-district partnerships. These experiences provide faculty with the most comprehensive research-based instructional strategies. As a result, all faculty members establish annual goals through strategic planning, which is critical to the long-term success of our district.

In an effort to contain costs, we continued shared services with the Borough of Wood-Ridge and surrounding school districts. Inter-local agreements have greatly reduced expenditures in fuel, transportation, student services and negotiating less costly insurance premiums and continue to spend less per pupil than the state average.

As noted in our mission statement, the Wood-Ridge School District is committed to providing an excellent academic education that is rich in social and cultural programs in collaboration with faculty, support staff, administration and community. Wood-Ridge is a school system based on successful cooperation among family, school and community. Active organizations such as the Wood-Ridge Police Department, Wood-Ridge Memorial Foundation, the PTA and the Wood-Ridge Public Education Foundation continue to provide generous support to enhance curricular and co-curricular activities.

Success is not the result of an institution, but of its dedicated people. Our Board of Education, parents, town leaders, community members, administrators, faculty and staff, and most importantly, our students, contribute to the ongoing tradition of excellence in the Wood-Ridge School District.
