The Burlington County Institute of Technology (BCIT) is a full-time comprehensive Career and Technical high school district with campuses in Medford and Westampton, New Jersey. The over 2000 students enrolled at BCIT come from 38 sending school districts throughout Burlington County. In 2016, approximately 80% of our students committed to continuing their education, earning over $7,000,000 in scholarships.

The demand for a technologically proficient workforce is reflected in virtually every one of BCIT’s Career Majors. In recent years we have added to the already existing high-tech programs of Electronics, Computer Science Applications, Architecture and Design Technology, and a new cadre of high-tech programs including Entertainment Technology and Pre-engineering. These programs prepare students for advanced educational pursuits or positions requiring technical certifications.

The traditional career major programs have also been up-graded to meet business and industry standards. Automotive Technology, Printing/Graphics Communication, Welding Technology, Architecture and Design Technology, Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning/Refrigeration, Automotive Technology and Auto Collision Repair Technology have been certified by the respective industries. Students enrolled in Cosmetology, Allied Health Professionals and Dental Assisting take licensing exams at the conclusion of their programs. High school students enrolled in Construction Technology, Electrical Technology and Plumbing Technology begin their apprenticeship programs as seniors.

Other high demand programs such as Veterinarian Assistant; Marketing; Culinary Arts and Hospitality; Advertising, Art and Design; Early Childhood Education; and Fashion, Design, and Merchandising are affording students excellent career opportunities. Law and Public Safety, Sports Medicine, Entertainment Technologies have been added in recent years and draw a large number of students. These career majors offer students additional pathways to employment and post-secondary education.

Our career major and academic programs are aligned with the New Jersey Common Core Curriculum. These programs are both challenging and comprehensive. Students are prepared for college or for the world of work. High school students who wish to pursue a college education enroll in college preparation courses including advanced sciences, mathematics, English and social studies. Advanced Placement and Honors courses are offered in these areas as well as World Languages. This year we began offering American Sign Language. BCIT has 47 different articulation programs with twelve colleges and universities whereby the high school students earn college credits.

Students at BCIT have the opportunity to participate in hybrid elective and advanced placement classes. These courses, modeled after contemporary college classes, blend face-to-face meetings with online, synchronous instruction. Also available to students is the high-tech lounge, a modern, technology-rich hall staffed with teachers and student tutors for extra assistance or study sessions.

BCIT has a wide-array of sports and club activities. A majority of our students actively participate in a career and technical organization (CTSO) specific to their career major. These CTSOs include SkillsUSA, Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA), Family Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), Distributive Education of America (DECA), and Future Farmers of America (FFA).

We are proud of the considerable awards and recognition that our students and faculty have received at the state and national level, such as:

In 2015-16, 100% of Westampton campus students passed Advertising, Art, and Design, Allied Health, Auto, Diesel, Dental, Early Childhood Education, Entertainment Technology, HVAC, Law and Public Safety, Plumbing, Sports Medicine, and Information Technology certification exams.

During the 2015-2016 school year, 100% of our Medford campus seniors in HVAC, Performing Arts: Theatre and Dance, Pre-engineering, Sports Medicine, and Welding Technology met the requirements for their corresponding certifications. The Class of 2016 earned over $1,000,000 in scholarships; 60% are attending a two-year college, and 20% are attending a four-year college.

In addition to all of our academic and career values, BCIT places great emphasis on character education. We continue to strengthen our PRIDE character education program which honors our students and staff in various ways. This program is carefully designed to increase academic performance, student attendance and positive behavior. BCIT carefully focuses on increasing the trust and respect within our interactions in the school community.

Our staff and faculty recognize the challenges faced by young people and adults and works diligently to truly make a difference in each person who enrolls at BCIT in search of a meaningful future.
