Tabernacle Township School District

October 2016
Dear Members of the Tabernacle Community:
The Tabernacle School community prides itself on educational excellence for the benefit of ALL our students by emphasizing a strong partnership between the home, the school, and the community. As we embark on this journey together, I am always looking forward to working with you on behalf of your children. As an educator I believe learning is a lifelong process and our children’s passion for knowledge is formulated in their early years of education. Our children’s ability to meet the challenges of a global workplace requires an effective educational environment to foster their growth.

In order for our schools to remain high performing for all students, we must continue to strive to adapt and embrace new knowledge and skills. The present educational challenges before us are the state’s adoption of new learning standards, known as the New Jersey Student Learning Standards (NJSLS); the NJ Department of Education's implementation of a new online statewide assessment by the Partnership for Assessment of College and Careers (PARCC), in order to measure whether our students are on track to be successful in college and their careers, and; the assurance that our curriculum and instruction are preparing all our students for success in a 21st Century economy. We believe the way to achieve these challenges is by ensuring our students are challenged academically and supported emotionally in partnership with our families and community. Our schools are the anchors of our community and when they are excellent, they serve to attract new residents and help to stabilize home values. As always, we continue to focus on maintaining a high quality school district in a fiscally responsible manner.

For the 2016-2017 school year, the district will be continuing its efforts to (1) fully develop a comprehensive balanced literacy program and curriculum in grades K through 8, with a focus on Writer's Workshop, Word Study, and Personal Choice Reading, and (2) align the integrated Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (iSTEM) programming with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), utilizing professional development committees and staff specialists to develop units and lessons. Also, the district will explore the steps necessary for adapting facility space to create an Innovation Learning Center in the Middle School for iSTEM and project based cross curricular activities.

Working together we ensure our children find joy and excitement in their ability to learn and maximize their potential for educational success!
