Rosa International Middle School

Dear Parents, Guardians, and Community Members:

On behalf of Rosa International Middle School and the Cherry Hill School District, I am happy to share with you the New Jersey School Performance Report. It provides a method for tracking our school’s progress toward New Jersey’s Core Curriculum Content Standards.

At Rosa International Middle School, we use results from the state assessments to identify areas for growth and improvement. Of course, student achievement cannot be defined solely by performance on standardized tests. Of equal importance are classroom work and assessments, projects, oral presentations, participation in classroom discussions, participation in the arts, community service and more. We have implemented a variety of initiatives that are unique to our learning community:

1. Rosa continues to operate as an International Baccalaureate School using the Middle Years Programme. Our students view the NJCCCS & Common Core State Standards through global contexts, diverse approaches to learning, and mandatory service learning projects.

2. English Language Arts & Math Intervention – We use flexible grouping at the end of each unit to provide intervention to extension experiences for all students.

3. In 2015, students were exposed to and engaged with the “Hour of Code” and “Maker Space programs. These STEM related programs were specifically designed to give Rosa students greater exposure to engineering practices and computer science.

4. We continue our ongoing partnership with Awegey’s School in Kigo, Uganda. Our fundraising efforts have been used to purchase science equipment for the school, to build a school library and to purchase “Meds and Beds.”

5. We have continued the “Bridge Program” from High School East to Rosa in 2015. More than 60 students participated in this program last year. It involved mentoring and tutoring students in grades 6-8.

We are proud to note that Rosa has received national recognition - as a 2009 NCLB School of Excellence and a 2008 National School of Character. But we are most proud of our students; they reflect the commitment of Rosa teachers, administrators, staff and parents to develop active, compassionate and lifelong learners.

We are excited about the many initiatives that contribute to the development of the whole student. Please contact the school to learn more about these initiatives or about any of the data in School Performance Report.

Sincerely,
