Samuel S. Yellin Elementary School

The Samuel S. Yellin School provides a safe, productive, and enthusiastic learning environment that is educationally stimulating and affords all students an opportunity to be successful. The Yellin School houses approximately 515 students that are comprised of five grade levels ranging from 4th Grade to 8th Grade. The nearby Laurel Springs School District is a sending district starting in 7th Grade.

The Core Curriculum Courses are Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. These areas drive the instruction and provide the necessary rigor that is both challenging and meaningful to all students. The Core is fully supported by other courses where students explore Media/Technology, World Language, Art, Music, and Keyboarding. Also offered is a Comprehensive Health Program that includes our Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) and a Physical Education Curriculum that supports the physical, emotional, social, and intellectual development of our middle level students. Students also benefit from Middle School Advanced Mathematics and Language Arts classes as well as the Gifted and Talented Program. Our Gifted and Talented Program emphasizes the newly formed Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics Initiative. Our success comes from a talented and dedicated staff that is committed to the Samuel S. Yellin school mission and acknowledges the importance of an academically challenging and supportive environment to engage young adolescent learners.

In order to meet the needs of all students, we provide a full continuum of Special Education Programs as students with special needs are interwoven into our traditional classrooms. Our In-Class Resource Teachers are highly qualified and certified in educating the specific needs of these students. Also, Pull-Out Replacement Teachers assist in the In-Class Resource education. Students may also benefit from Basic Skills, Guidance, Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Physical Therapy.

The Samuel S. Yellin School curriculum is enriched through field trips, assemblies, clubs, guest speakers, and a variety of activities and programs. Our Music Department offers an Intermediate Band, Advanced Band, and Choir. Interscholastic Athletics include Boys Soccer, Girls Soccer, Boys Basketball, Girls Basketball, Cheerleading, Softball, and Baseball. Depending on grade level, students may participate in National Junior Honor Society, Student Council, Peer Tutoring, Leo Club, School Newspaper, Yearbook, Lego Club, Robotics, Chess Club, The Bridge, and Drama Club.

The Samuel S. Yellin School works closely with the Parent Teacher Organization and the community to foster a close knit partnership/relationship. PTO sponsors Book Fairs to increase reading, Educational Assemblies to promote a learning climate, and Field Trips to enrich the overall learning experience. Our Renaissance Program is a vital part of our school culture/climate as it promotes and acknowledges academic excellence, outstanding behavior, school attendance, and active participation in school related or community based activities.

Our success at the Samuel S. Yellin School is a direct reflection of the combined efforts from the home and school. The administration coupled with a dedicated staff and a supportive parent community work harmoniously together bringing out the best in each and every student/child.
