Quality Staff and Professional Development
The Stone Harbor Elementary School is proud of its excellent hard working, highly qualified staff. Both professional and support staff members are actively involved in helping our school develop and grow in this ever changing world. Various staff development programs were provided to enhance the instructional techniques and methods of our teaching staff throughout the year. Staff members attended graduate classes and workshops in the areas of technology, reading, literacy, and the use of applications for the iPad and laptop computers. Staff development time has been scheduled for all classroom teachers to provide an opportunity for sharing curricula, concerns and develop strategies to improve instruction, assist students and effectively communicate with the parents. In-service opportunities have been scheduled into the school calendar to insure consistency and a comprehensive instructional delivery system K- 4.

The budget process has been successfully implemented for the past year because of the effective communication between the Business Administrator and CSA. We are able to track and monitor our spending, and develop realistic budget projections because the data is accurate and reliable. This makes the budgeting process much easier when working under the timelines from Trenton and we have been able to bring our budget within the CAP. As a result of S-1701 legislation, we have an Inter-local Agreement with the Avalon Board of Education to share the services of the Chief School Administrator and Supervisor of Curriculum and Instruction. We provided the public with accurate information and public relations materials to help insure the passage of the school budget. Our Parent Teacher Connection takes an active role in supporting our school budget.

Parent and Community Involvement
The Stone Harbor Parent Teacher Connection (PTC) had another very successful school year providing supplemental materials, programs, activities and volunteers to enhance our school program. Parent volunteers were actively involved in various school-wide events throughout the school year acting as guest readers, vocational speakers/ presenters, lunchroom monitors and assisting with book fairs, field trips, classroom projects, field day, and other PTC functions. School personnel facilitate a monthly book club for senior members of our community. We have opened the library for our students during the summer to encourage recreational reading.

Stone Harbor Elementary School is a small barrier island school that is on the forefront of education in the State of New Jersey. The staff and Board of Education foster a cooperative working relationship with our community. This positive support continues to allow the further development and advancement of curriculum programs that profit our children, their families, and the total Stone Harbor community.
