The West Cape May School District provides a small school/community-based learning environment for children in grades Pre-K through sixth. An optimum student-teacher ratio and a caring, experienced staff, combined with sustained research-based professional development, create a learning environment where students, teachers and parents work together.

The West Cape May School District has been a Choice District since 2011. The New Jersey Interdistrict Public School Choice program provides the opportunity for non-resident students to attend West Cape May Elementary School at no cost to their parents/guardians.

The West Cape May School District is comprised of one school, grades Pre-K through sixth with an enrollment of 100 students. The primary mission of the West Cape May School District is to provide a well-rounded, developmentally-appropriate, research-based academic program that motivates and develops each child’s potential. The West Cape May Board of Education understands that fulfillment of this mission requires not only a program that provides educationally-enriched opportunities for staff and students, but also a supportive and participatory connection with parents and the community. The commitment of staff, parents, community members, and area business leaders enables our school to maintain a quality instructional program in a nurturing, safe and healthy environment.
The District offers a half-day Pre-Kindergarten program along with a full-day Kindergarten program. Our learning environment supports multi-age classrooms with grade combinations in third and fourth, and fifth and sixth grades. Language arts literacy, mathematics and science have high priority in the academic structure of the school day.

Our faculty consists of five full-time classroom teachers and one Special Education teacher. Our part-time faculty includes classroom Instructional Aides, a PE/Health teacher, an Art teacher, a Music teacher, a Spanish teacher, a Library/Media Specialist, a guidance counselor, Pre-Kindergarten teacher, school nurse and a special education case manager. Many of the teaching staff hold Master’s degrees and all are highly qualified. Over the years, teachers in the District have written grants and been awarded thousands of dollars to implement classroom projects designed to enhance learning. The dedication and professionalism of the staff is also evidenced in successful annual NJ ASK and PARCC test results.

The District has a full-time Superintendent of Schools/Principal/Board Secretary/School Business Administrator, a full-time Supervisor, and a full- and part-time Administrative Assistant.

The District’s Character Education program and culturally enriched activities enhance and promote the core values of respect, trustworthiness, fairness, caring, responsibility and citizenship. Many of the activities that enhance these programs are funded and supported by a strong and active PTA.

The New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards, Common Core State Standards, and Next Generation Science Standards provide guidance and direction in the planning and implementation of instructional strategies and staff professional development.

As the students often hear, “We Are West Cape May Proud!” We are proud that we can offer a superior education in a supportive and nurturing environment.
