Woodbury Heights Public School District

The Woodbury Heights Elementary School community is committed to promote learning for all of our children through academic, physical, social and emotional supports. This year’s theme, “Reach New Heights of Teamwork” is reinforced through our emphasis on character education. Our teachers and support staff constitute a truly exceptional group of educators. Giving of their time and talent, they go far above the norm to provide a caring and supportive learning environment.

The integration of technology has been expanded for all students, with teachers and our technology coach working side by side to deliver relevant instruction. Workstations are available in each classroom in grades one through three, as well as in the computer lab and library. Every student in grades three through six has a chrome book to use throughout his/her schedule. Each kindergarten through second grade classroom is equipped with a mobile iPad lab. A mobile iPad lab is also available for classroom use in grades three through six. All of our classrooms have interactive white boards.

Fifth and sixth grade students rotate through a set of cycle classes to explore special areas. Offerings in STEAM education, financial literacy, e-Journalism, coding, and robotics have been added to art and music, providing students with opportunities for project-based learning and the application of concepts covered in their core subjects. New this year for students in grades K-4 is a weekly STEAM class.

Students are recognized throughout the year for various achievements and their active participation in school programs. Extra curricular activities include Chorus, Band, Spirit Club, Art Club, Spanish Club, Homework Club, and Safety Patrol. Students are recognized on a monthly basis as "Terrific Kids" from the Woodbury Kiwanis Club. First and second honor roll students receive certificates. Fitness awards are also given for those achieving high levels of performance.

Professional development continues to be an area of focus for our school. Staff members participate in six full days of staff development. Faculty meetings are devoted to professional learning. The main emphasis in staff workshops this year is the implementation of a new math program, alignment of science curriculum with the Next Generation Science Standards, alignment of all curricula to the New Jersey Student Learning Standards and continued integration of technology applications and initiatives to improve instructional practice and student achievement.

Our Home and School Association is instrumental in providing supplemental materials, programs, activities and volunteers to enhance our school program. Parent volunteers are actively involved in various school-wide events throughout the year – assemblies, book fairs, Holiday shop, sixth grade activities, fun day and other functions. Their support greatly enriches our students’ school experience!
