Hoboken Public School District

The Hoboken Public School District is located within the famous one square mile City of Hoboken, New Jersey. Bordering the Hudson River and in full view of the magnificent New York City skyline, the City and School District are exciting and energizing places in which to live and be educated.
There is never a lack of excitement in the Hoboken School District. Curriculum continues to be enhanced, instructional practice expanded, professional development improved, and student programs developed. Hoboken staff and administrators work diligently to marry state and national standards. In preparing for the implementation of the Next Generation Science Standards, Hoboken teachers have participated in professional learning communities to gain a deeper understanding of the content, process, and skills associated with these new learning expectations. The district has recently committed to implementing Project Lead the Way, a nationally recognized S.T.E.M. program at all grade levels. In addition to PLTW Launch and Gateway Programs, Hoboken High School Students are participating in Project Lead the Way’s Programs in Biomedical Science, Engineering, and Computer Science. New science labs and a state-of-the-art robotics lab ensure that students are working in dynamic learning environments.
As the PARCC assessments become integrated into our educational program, the Hoboken School District has upgraded technology and has exposed students to ongoing activities that require the use of computers. Each one of our schools is data-driven and use both formative and summative assessments to guide teaching. Our paramount objective is to meet the needs and support each and every one of our students. As a result, the district has rolled out a daily Challenge and Support period in grades K-8, and has expanded Response to Intervention to include additional grade levels and mathematics.
The Hoboken School District is both innovative and progressive. In addition to high quality full-day preschool and kindergarten programs, the district offers a before school breakfast program and The Passport to Learning After School Program. At Hoboken High School, an all-new Personal Growth Period has been rolled out. This period provides students with self-selected, authentic learning experiences each day.
The Hoboken School District is proud of its Sustainable Jersey Bronze Level Certification. All schools met rigorous criteria and are committed to sustainable practices. Many opportunities are available through the district’s Parent and Guardian Academy to bring parents together and deliver vital information about instruction and curriculum. The district is also committed to enrichment experiences for all students. Kindergarten through 8th grade students receive weekly school-wide enrichment, while identified Gifted and Talented students at grades 2 through 8 participate in a dedicated pull-out program. Students in grades 3-12 who test into the Johns Hopkins’ Center for Talented Youth Program may participate in accelerated online coursework at no cost. For those students with expanded interests and talents, the district boasts phenomenal music, theater, art, television broadcast, and culinary arts programs. Clubs, competitions, and a highly competitive and successful athletic program round out the many opportunities offered to students.
Working with our neighbor, Stevens Institute of Technology, our elementary and middle school students’ benefit from the knowledge and expertise of Stevens’ students and student athletes when participating in science fairs and receiving S.T.E.M. lessons. Rutgers New Jersey Medical School also provides wonderful experiences that enhance student learning. Hoboken High School students participate in the Pre-medical Honors Program and the Honors Elective Program sponsored by the University. As the district continues to raise expectations for all students, the Advanced Placement program is ever-expanding and joint partnerships are being forged with colleges and universities to roll out dual enrollment courses to take place during the day at Hoboken High School.
Support services in the Hoboken Schools are top notch. In addition to a talented cadre of school nurses, an athletic trainer, Child Study Team members, school library media specialists, reading coaches, and a district-wide Student Assistance Counselor to name a few, the Hoboken Junior Senior High School operates a fully functioning and comprehensive School-based Youth Services Program that boasts an array of talented professionals to assist students in short and long-term academic goal setting, social and emotional growth, positive peer interactions and decision-making, and career exploration.
The Hoboken School District has a wonderfully supportive team of educators and a committed parent body. The recipe for success has been formulated and the school community-at-large is ready for the many great achievements that lie ahead.
