Mercer County Technical School District Narrative

The Mercer County Technical School District offers full-time and shared-time career and technical education programs to high school students in Mercer County. The school district also provides comprehensive adult and postsecondary programs in health care and a variety of other industries.

In September 2016, the Mercer County Technical School District launched a full-time, 4-year Academy of Culinary Arts at the Arthur R. Sypek Center. Students will work toward the completion of Mercer County Community College credits and industry credentials while in high school. In addition, student learning will be enhanced through key business partnerships allowing for multiple workplace readiness and experiential learning opportunities.

In September 2015, the Mercer County Technical School District launched a full-time, 4-year STEM Academy on the West Windsor Campus of Mercer County Community College. The STEM Academy delivers academically challenging and rigorous curriculum including Project Lead The Way, an activity-, project-, and problem-based curriculum.

Established in September 2010, the Mercer County Technical School District also offers a full-time, four-year Health Science Academy at the Assunpink Center for students in grades 9 – 12. The Health Science Academy offers students a comprehensive preparation for careers in the health sciences.

At the Assunpink and Arthur R. Sypek Centers, shared-time programs are offered to students in grades 10 - 12. Students enrolled in shared-time programs spend half of their school day at their home high school and half of their day participating in a career and technical education program of their choice at the Mercer County Technical School District.

The Mercer County Technical School District’s Career Prep program is offered in conjunction with Mercer County Community College. Through articulation agreements, high school seniors in Mercer County may earn up to 13 college credits while simultaneously completing their high school graduation requirements.

Adult Evening programs are available for high school graduates and "early leavers" who choose to further their education in a variety of high-demand industries.

The Health Careers Center offers part-time and full-time postsecondary programs such as Practical Nursing, Medical Assisting, Health Technology and other specialized courses. The postsecondary programs are ideal for working adults and career-changers.

The District operates under the auspices of The Board of Education of the Vocational Schools in the County of Mercer which is comprised of six (6) members. Five (5) of the Board members are appointed by the County Executive and approved by the Board of Chosen Freeholders.

The school district is currently under certification by the State Department of Education pursuant to the requirements of N.J.A.C. 6:8-4.1 et.seq. and it is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.
