Monroe Township School District

On behalf of the Monroe Township Board of Education and our entire educational community, I welcome you to the Monroe Township School District (MTSD) Performance Review. The Monroe Township School District is a premier and award winning school district centrally located in beautiful Middlesex County, New Jersey.
The 2015-16 school year witnessed a Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM) initiative in our schools. Students were engaged in project-based learning employing engineering principles, math concepts, coding and inquiry-based science projects utilizing technology resources and district-wide wireless access to the internet. In addition, many of our teachers began using Google Apps for Education (GAFE) to foster collaboration and creative problem-solving of real world issues among students. Our high school engineering students are engaged in Project Lead the Way, in association with Rowan University, and two of our students conducted research on genomes through Waksman Institute at Rutgers University this past summer.
This year, our high school students have the option of enrolling in one of our Career Academies; namely, STEM; Business, Law and Government; or Communication and the Arts. Interacting with professionals in their field of interest and the completion of a capstone project will provide our students with the skills necessary to be successful in their college and career. In addition, we are exploring various partnerships with colleges and corporations to provide students internship and apprenticeship opportunities.
Our student-centered approach to teaching and learning provides an individualized approach to instruction. Students who demonstrate exceptional thinking and learning behaviors can participate in our Talented and Gifted Program and students who need extra support are provided with the necessary resources through our Multi-Tiered Systems of Support.
Our focus on enhancing communication to our parents and community resulted in our new standards-based report card, which provides detailed information to parents regarding their child’s academic progress and learner behaviors. We also utilize a digital newsletter, the Falcon Flyer, to communicate district and community information.
Students have the ability to participate in a myriad of programs and activities, in addition to their core classes. Our award winning music program, traditional and digital media programs, Future Business Leaders of America, Mock Trial, DECA and athletic teams are just some of the ways that we teach the whole child.
The MTSD Professional Development opportunities for staff are focused on professional learning communities, mini courses taught by district teachers and the use of technology to enhance instruction and learning.
Parent and community participation is an integral component of the MTSD. Our Parent Teacher Organizations/Associations contribute to the educational and extra-curricular student programs through their volunteer work throughout the district.
Monroe Township is experiencing exponential growth due to the excellent schools and beautiful community. The Board of Education engaged community involvement in a Student Growth Advisory Committee (SGAC) and the Board and District Administration are now exploring the recommendations forward by the SGAC.
