New Brunswick School District

New Brunswick Public Schools is a vibrant, diverse school district located in one of New Jersey's most historic communities – a thriving college town that's been home to Rutgers University for nearly 250 years.

New Brunswick's population is 55,000, and its school district enrolls more than 10,200 students from preschool through grade 12. Illustrating the multicultural nature of the community, about two-thirds of district students speak one of 41 languages other than English at home. In terms of demographics, 88 percent of them are Hispanic; another 10 percent are African-American.

New Brunswick Public Schools has a total of 1,675 certified teachers and professional support staff members serving the needs of 12 schools. Specifically, there are nine neighborhood elementary schools and a middle school, plus New Brunswick High School – which features four themed career institutes and two preparatory academies – plus the Health Sciences Technology High School for students interested in eventually pursuing healthcare careers. In addition, an Adult Learning Center addresses local community requirements, and has provided educational services to more than 4,000 graduates.

The district's preschool program has the capacity to serve nearly 1,600 three and four year olds at 13 community childcare centers and seven in-district sites. The rich academic experience provided to New Brunswick's students also includes 40 after-school activities, 22 high school-level athletic teams – plus 11 middle school-level teams – and a comprehensive fine, visual, and performing arts program.

The district's curriculum is comprehensive and research-based, encouraging students to be lifelong learners. Through a focus on advanced technology, students and staff alike are provided with the skills to thrive in a rapidly evolving world.

The district’s five-year Strategic Plan focuses on the following six Priorities, which will position the district to empower students with a truly life-changing education.
Rigorous Academic Programs
