Spotswood Public School District

For 2016-17, Spotswood Public Schools continue with our theme of Connect, Learn, Collaborate. We chose to continue our efforts so we can expand on its tenets, which encourage our students, teachers, parents, and community members to be part of our school district. We are connecting to members of our school community through various methods including social media, QR Codes, and Google Apps for Education. As we connect, we are also learning from each other by sharing the great things happening inside and ouside of our schools, and before and after school. Finally, we are working on collaborating with our school community and the world outside our community in an effort to continue providing a high level of academic excellence, creativity, and critical thinking.

The foundation of our school district’s educational plan is setting high academic expectations for our students. Classroom teachers, school administrators, and district leadership work together with our community to ensure every student is learning and achieving to his/her fullest potential every day, in all of our schools. This is evidenced through PSAT and SAT scores, enrollment in Advanced Placement course offerings, and results on state assessments that consistently exceed state and national averages. A committment to academic excellence and increasing our program offerings is also evident in the approval of 2 more high school classes eligible for college credit through a collaborative agreement we have with Middlesex County College. With these latest approvals, we now have 5 classes in which our students can earn college credit while taking classes at our high school.

Our school community also recognizes the importance of a well-rounded student and as such, the district provides a broad spectrum of Fine and Performing Arts programs and activities as well as strong extracurricular and co-curricular opportunities that all of our students are encouraged to take part in throughout the school year. Student government, service clubs, and academic organizations compliment the rich and growing Fine and Performing Arts programs for our students.

Both our academic and extra-curricular programs are supported by a dedicated staff of professional educators and hard-working support staff who are committed to continuous improvement and growth. Two hallmarks of this dedication are our four-year New Teacher Induction Program, which works to provide our new teachers with the training and resources needed to create excellent learning environments, and encourages them to be engaged and part of our school community; and our Spotswood Professional Development Academy which provides monthly training opportunities to staff on a multitude of educational, instructional, and educational technology topics.

District faculty and staff work together to prepare our students for college and career success. This is evident in the collaboration to develop the district’s new Technology Plan and their participation on various committees which include: Superintendent’s Faculty Advisory and Consultation Team (FACT), Lead Learner Committee (LLC), School Improvement Teams, School Safety Teams, and Professional Learning Community teams. Their commitment ensures our instructional practices are the very best and challenge our students.

Spotswood Public Schools is committed to developing the whole child and we understand the success of our students will be assessed by their ability to meet the challenges they face after graduation. As a result, we are committed to providing them with the skills, knowledge, and experiences necessary to be successful while in our schools and after they graduate.
