Long Hill Township School District (27-4000)

Long Hill Township School District

The Long Hill Township School District is a high achieving district which currently serves 830 students in Pre-Kindergarten through eighth grade in three schools. Gillette School provides an integrated preschool program as well as Kindergarten and first grade. Millington School houses students in grades 2 through 5 and Central Middle School is home to students in grades 6 through 8.

The district takes pride in its commitment to provide a safe and vibrant learning environment for all students. The district's curriculum provides a broad range of instruction in accordance with the New Jersey Student Learning Standards (NJSLS) in all content areas.

The district continues to focus on data informed instruction. At the center of this initiative is a goal to advance all learners to higher levels of learning. This year, our staff is working collaboratively across grade levels to disaggregate student performance data on the recent PARCC assessments while also creating benchmark assessments in literacy and math which are aligned to the NJSLS.

The Long Hill Township School District has made great accomplishments in the area of technology. The district recently completed a wireless infrastructure upgrade project to ensure all students have access to technology. This wireless upgrade project enables teachers to use more interactive technology in the delivery of their instruction. Currently, we have mobile Ipad and laptop carts where students are using 21st century skills in their learning. Additionally, each classroom is equipped with Smartboard technology, which provides for interactive learning for all of our students. This year, the district is implementing a one to one Chrome Book initiative in grade five and will seek full implementation in grades 4 - 8 during the 2017 – 18 school year.

Our district has gone "green" as our teachers communicate with parents and the community using their own webpage to facilitate the sharing of information with students and parents. Furthermore, the district disseminates information electronically through the Friday Flyers email distribution. The district website provides access to a broad range of district information including Board of Education policies, the agenda and minutes of Board meetings.

Our students continue to perform well on state assessments, typically meeting or exceeding the scores obtained by similar schools state wide. All of our teachers meet the federal definition of being highly qualified in their disciplines.

District organizations such as the Parent Teacher Organization, F.O.R.C.E., and S.P.O.R.T. provide financial contributions as well as volunteers to support academic and athletic programs in our district. Our district is fortunate to have administrators, teachers and support staff that give selflessly of their time and energies to maintain high levels of student performance and provide a safe and healthy learning environment.
