Ringwood School District (31-4400)

Ringwood School District

Ringwood’s Public Schools are comprised of four schools: Robert Erskine Elementary School (Grades K-3), Peter Cooper Elementary School (Grades K-3), E. G. Hewitt Intermediate School (Grades 4 and 5), and Martin J. Ryerson Middle School (Grades 6-8). The district’s schools are focused on providing students with necessary education they require to be prepared for the dynamic and unpredictable demands of their future.
Ringwood’s teachers are a highly qualified workforce providing students with content, skills, and strategies to equip their students for success. The district has used the guidance of the Common Core State Standards, the New Jersey State Student Learning Standards, the College and Career Readiness Standards, and the Next Generation Science Standards to design a learning experience for our students that is robust and challenging.
Student progress, through each grade level, is closely monitored and daily lessons and strategies are adjusted based on the results of meaningful student data. By reviewing formal and informal assessments such as STAR Online Assessments, CogAT Cognitive Ability Assessments, and teacher prepared standards-based assessments, our classrooms are dynamic and addressing the needs of the individual learner. Our middle school is partnered as a Columbia University Teacher’s College Reading and Writing Project school, delivering cutting edge Language Arts professional development to our teachers and highest quality units of study to our students. The elementary school teachers have worked diligently on newly aligned lessons that edify our students in the core reading elements of phonemic awareness, phonics, reading fluency, vocabulary development, and comprehension strategies. Our Kindergarten, 1st Grade, and supplementary reading teachers are trained in the Orton-Gillingham Approach and employ these strategies to help our students grow as readers.
Educating the whole child is an important focus of the Ringwood Public Schools. Exposure to the fine/performing arts addresses learning skills outside of the traditional academic core classrooms. Our programs offer students the opportunity to develop their talents and skills in a variety of areas. We celebrate these talents and skills on our fields and stages.
Building global citizenry is a key area of focus in all grades. Programs that promote a vibrant and positive school climate play an essential role in our district. Anti-Bullying presentations and social-learning programs all contribute to establishing our schools as safe and friendly learning centers. Students can express themselves and understand how to be positive and productive members of our larger society. Our Character Education program promotes responsibility to self, family, school, and community.
Ringwood is a suburban town set in beautiful natural surroundings and has a rich tradition based on a spirit of true community. Ringwood is proud of its schools. The district strives to provide a safe, productive, and high-quality learning environment where children can meet the challenges of the future while celebrating the joys of childhood today.
