Somerset County Vocational & Technical School District is located on an eighty acre campus in Bridgewater. Serving all of Somerset County our fully accredited Vocational & Technical High School is comprised of grades 9-12 and serves a wide range of learners on both a full and share-time basis. Our focus is on facilitating the academic and career goals of our students by providing various educational experiences designed to nurture intellectual growth, civic responsibility, and social and emotional strength. Students attending SCVTS enjoy a compassionate and caring student-centered learning environment. Students can embark on a career path leading to employment, post-secondary training and/or college through the utilization of individual learning plans. Teachers recruited from industry apply expert knowledge from the field and enlist support from industry advisory councils to enhance each program and inform students of authentic employment expectations. The district provides a college and career readiness component connecting academic achievement information to future plans. Students engage in self-discovery, career exploration, and college research to connect their abilities and interests to relevant career pathways. Enrichment opportunities are available to teachers as the District is an active and functioning Professional Development School (PDS). This model employs professors in residence from a local university to strengthen both educational theory and practice. The model is similar to the medical model, whereas teachers can learn utilizing students in the classroom as a learning lab, connecting research in the field with instructional strategies that improve student outcomes. Professional Development for teachers also combines best practices utilizing Professional Learning Communities that build upon action research to improve related interdisciplinary instruction.

In addition to our traditional high school Career & Technical Education (CTE) programs, our district offers a highly specialized program for students who excel in science and mathematics. Our Academy for Health and Medical Sciences is a "school within a school” program. Students enter the ninth grade year as a cohort and progress through an intensive four year course of study sequence. The Academy for Health and Medical Sciences, in conjunction with Raritan Valley Community College (RVCC), provides students with the opportunity to earn both a New Jersey high school diploma and an Associate's Degree in General Science. Our world class performing arts program incorporates professional preparation for careers in the arts, while learning and refining technical skills in dance, acting and vocal music. SCVTS offers an alternative educational/vocational program for non-traditional learners in need of extra support services and a summer Twilight program for “at-risk” students in need of career awareness and guidance. A recently developed partnership with the Somerset County Educational Services Commission provides career development opportunities for students with lower cognitive abilities. New this year is the MEAM program integrating mechatronics, engineering and advanced manufacturing for students interested in these career pathways. The program introduces basic engineering and design concepts culminating in college credits transferrable to RVCC and New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT).

Our mission is to establish the highest standards of excellence for educating all individuals in a manner that enables them to achieve their maximum potential. Moreover, our district strives to create an environment where individuals are academically, technically and vocationally prepared for a successful future.

Approximately 75% of our students go on to post-secondary educational programs, while approximately 25% go directly into the workforce or military.
