Alpha Borough School District (41-0070)

Alpha Borough School District

The Alpha Public School is home to 193 students in grades kindergarten through eighth grade. Students in grades nine through twelve attend Phillipsburg High School. The assessment and curricular programs focus on students being able to master the Core Curriculum State Standards that are established by the State of New Jersey.

Within the past year, financial resources have been utilized for the purchase of 95 Chrome Books to enhance the delivery of the curriculum. During the 2016-17 school year, teachers will be implementing a new Language Arts Literacy curriculum entitled Journeys. The curriculum more accurately reflects the content and standards that students are being assessed on when the PARCC test is taken. The district also has a comprehensive multiple system of tiered support to include an after school program called Jump Start.

The school is pleased to offer a variety of co-curricular activities and organizations for students to become involved beyond the school day. Student organizations include Safety Patrol, Year Book, Drama Club, Dance Club, and Homework Club.

For the 2016-17 school year, all students will be involved in a 1000 Hour Challenge of Community Service. The goal is to have all students collectively volunteer 1000 hours of service in a variety of community and service activities. With their involvement, students are able to understand the importance and need for “giving back to their community.”

Two Board of Education meetings are scheduled each month. The first Thursday of each month, a Work Session Meeting is held. On the third Tuesday of the month, a regular business meeting is held. All meetings begin at 7:00 PM and are held in the library of the school building. Additional information on the school district and the many activities and opportunities it has can be found on the school website, School district policies can also be found on the district website.

The Alpha Board of Education, the administration and professional teaching staff, as well as the support staff are committed to providing a quality educational program that strives to ensure all students experience success. This success will prepare them, upon the completion of eighth grade, to move forward in a career pathway as they begin their secondary educational program at Phillipsburg High School. Parents are an integral part of their child’s education and are encouraged to become actively engaged in the life of our school.
